PR 2016 No. 12

Managing Director to retire

Bangkok – 1st April 2016: Graham Macdonald MBE, MBMG Group co-founder and Managing Director, has confirmed his previously stated plans to retire from the Group at the end of May.
Educated in the UK at Repton School and the University of Bradford, Graham came to Thailand in 1994 and co-founded MBMG Group a year later. Since then, he has made an outstanding contribution to MBMG Group’s growth and to the financial services profession in South-East Asia as a whole.
Graham has set standards and expectations for behaviour which are universally recognized throughout the industry. These are best captured by his catchphrase, “We must always do the right thing”; a principle on which he does not compromise, whether referring to clients, colleagues or business partners.
Apart from driving MBMG's successful operations in South-East Asia, Graham has worked for nearly two decades on behalf of the British and South African Chambers of Commerce (where he is currently Chairman) and the Board of Trade of Thailand. He is also presently the President of the Royal British Legion Thailand and has been involved in a number of charities, including Care for Kids, the Lighthouse Club, BCTFN and World of Wine, a wine-distribution social enterprise that donates its profits to charities.
He has also received acclaim as an expert contributor to various newspapers, magazines and journals and received a nomination for the prestigious Lorenzo Natali Prize for journalism – an EU award created for excellence in reporting on human rights and democracy in the developing world.
In the New Year’s Honours List for 2013, Graham was made a Member of the Order of the British Empire for, “Services to British business interests in Thailand”.
Graham will be spending more of his time on the Eastern Seaboard but will continue to be actively involved in his charitable and chamber functions. He will remain very much interested in the progress and further development of the Group that he co-founded and which is recognized as a leading professional services provider not only in Thailand but throughout Asia and, indeed, globally. He will also be, initially, taking up an advisory role with Macallan Insurance Brokers.
We wish Graham a happy and thoroughly deserved retirement and give him immeasurable thanks for the expertise, dedication and devotion that has made MBMG Group the success it is today.
