Berkowitz has joined the firm as Partner and General Counsel, resident in the firm's New York City office. Mr. Berkowitz will continue his practice in the firm's Bankruptcy and Creditors' Rights, Litigation and Alternative Dispute Resolution Groups, however his primary role as General Counsel to the firm, will focus on working closely with the firm's Executive Management Committee on firm policies and risk management procedures as well as strategic and tactical business development initiatives.

Mr. Berkowitz's experience includes the representation of major institutional lenders and corporate and individual creditors in many well-known Chapter 11 bankruptcy matters. He has been appointed as both an Examiner and Chapter 11 operating trustee by the Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of New York, and is a member of the official mediation panel for the Bankruptcy Courts of the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York. He also served on numerous bar association committees and the subcommittee which advised the Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of New York concerning the formulations of the new local bankruptcy rules.

Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Berkowitz spent a year with the Office of the New York State Attorney General advising state agencies and other AG bureaus in connection with litigation strategy in commercial and bankruptcy litigation. He was previously a Partner at Farrell Fritz where he served at various times as the Bankruptcy Practice Group Leader, on the Strategic Planning Committee and as a Member of its Management Committee.
