Offit Kurman Establishes a Suburban Philadelphia Presence

Baltimore-based GGI member firm Offit Kurman is opening its first office in the suburbs of Philadelphia with the hire of two lawyers from Blue Bellbased Kaplin Stewart Meloff Reiter & Stein.
The new office, in Montgomery County, is staffed by partner Joshua C. Quinter and associate Karin Corbett. They both practice construction law and commercial litigation, representing contractors. They will work out of a temporary office in Plymouth Meeting until Offit Kurman finds a more permanent space in the area.
Quinter and Corbett officially joined the firm on 30 December 2016. They said they were attracted by the regional presence and resources the firm provided, while also allowing them to remain in the suburbs. Offit Kurman had already been planning to open an office outside Philadelphia before it began talks with the two attorneys. Quinter, who will be running the suburban office, said Offit Kurman's business philosophy was also a draw.
“Law firms are businesses and they're in the business of practicing law, and that's often lost in the law firm setting,” Quinter said. “We understand that we're a business and we want to interact with our clients in the same way.”
The firm plans to grow its suburban Philadelphia office “significantly” by recruiting lawyers and groups of lawyers to the new location, CEO Theodore A. Offit said in a statement. Quinter said he has already started talks with some lawyers about joining the new office.
He and Corbett will be bringing most of their clients with them to Offit Kurman, they said, and the firm's intention to open in the suburbs was a factor. The construction industry has become a regional enterprise, Quinter said, which makes Offit Kurman's footprint useful for clients. But his clients also want their legal counsel in a convenient location. Lizzy McLellan, The Legal Intelligencer (Click here to read the full article).
